Ok guys, need y'alls help with this one.
I've been going by Austin Hall a lot recently, and every time I've gone by I've noticed more and more stuff on the outside of the building that's been falling into disrepair (missing shutters, peeling paint, huge chunks missing from the pillars on the back side, etc). Because of Austin Hall's historical significance for the university and for the state, I've made my new goal in life to get Austin Hall repaired and restored.
Here's the problem.
I'm trying (unsuccessfully) to find any state funding that may be set aside for preservation of historical sites (Austin Hall has the Texas Historical Commission medallion on the back part of the building). I've been looking on the THC's website, but really haven't been able to find anything. Does anyone here know anything about any money that may be set aside for this by the state? _________________

Why is the University letting it go like that? It is a University Bldg last time I checked. Maybe they should get the Mtc Dept off their duffs and do little cosmetic work. |

I know it's a big stick to use, but you could also point out what happened the last time we didn't do proper maintenance of a historic building.

Actually, that was a comment in my original post, but I deleted it right before submitting. It's a VERY valid point _________________

That fire ALMOST took out Austin Hall. The roof burned down, but firefighters were able to save the building. _________________ "Let those who don't want none, have memories of never gettin' any."

| What amazes me even more is that President Gaetner is able to obtain all this money for the university to build new buildings and dorms, but can find the money to upkeep one of the oldest buildings in Texas? Doesnt make much sense. |

| Actually, the most effective thing an individual can do here is persuade the Item to get a striking picture of some of the damage and offer it to the AP state bureau (if said bureau still exists). |

So it may be broken up close, but it's still a beautiful scene.

There is no funds to preserve historical sites. The way it is done is by creating a committee to preserve the site, do a fund raiser and then find contractors to do the repair.
As the Pres of the SGA your job is half done, Do a couple events for Austin Hall!! |
